Finally into the games I covered in October. This was a freshmen girls game that featured a lot of battles and great competition between the teams. It seemed like this game was just full of action the entire time. Here are just a few of the images from the game.

I covered the three Oak Hills volleyball teams towards the end of September. Oak Hills dominated the other team in all the matches. I wish I could have gotten a little higher for some of these images but short of a ladder I was limited to the upper level. It would be a very bad thing for me to cover a game on a ladder. I know I would forget I was on a ladder and fall off. While I would like to be higher I will settle for more lights. A common thing I complain about I know. So before I go down that path I will just show some images.
I thought I would post a portrait session that I did a few weeks back to break up all the games. I have been taking this boy's picture for the past few years now. It is always amazing to me to see how much he changes. This time we headed to a little park I just stumbled across. The entrance is a little hard to find unless you know where to look. It has so many great areas to it. We got lucky on the weather as it was not too cold and there was plenty of sunshine. Below are some of my favorites from the session.

Another game from September. I remember this game too because it stormed towards the end of the JV game. They called the game complete even though there were 6+ minutes left to go in the game. The varsity game never got started. It was moved to the following evening but I could not make it. While the rain was desperately needed in the area, I was hoping it would hold off until after the games. It actually rained earlier in the day but it was clear when I left for the game. The JV game was definitely a battle and I would have liked to have seen the game played to the end. When lightening is seen for the safety of everyone the field is cleared. I actually made it back to my truck before the heaviest of the rain started. Enjoy the images below.
Even though this game was back in September I still remember it. Probably because it started much later than scheduled. The boys freshmen game got started late because a ref was late. I unfortunately could not make it to the start of the boys game so I was just planning on covering the girls game. When I got there and walked in the boys game was only 18 minutes into it. Since I plan on getting to games 25-30 minutes early you can guess how surprised I was. It was nice to sit and actually watch a game for a chance. When you photograph a game it is not at all like watching a game. You know what is going on but you only see so little of the true game action. Anyways, the girls game started pretty quickly after the boys game was over but I was starting to worry about lights. The Lakota West soccer stadium does not have the best lights for full coverage of the field. What was even more of a challenge, they waited a very long time to even turn the lights on. Since they are normally not needed for a freshmen game they had to go through the proper steps to get them turned on. Sometimes challenges are good and all turned out well. A JV football game on a Saturday morning. That normally means nice light and warmer temps than a varsity game. Well, it was definitely warm. Actually it was pretty hot. Really not sure how the players deal with the heat with all that equipment. I carry 8-10 pounds of equipment with me which is nothing compared to what they wear. Especially since my cameras are really not on me once the game starts. I remember talking to another photographer at the game who said we will probably complain when it gets to be 20 degrees out with a brisk wind. At that point I was not sure I agreed with him. The heat we had this summer was getting very old quickly. I was ready to have the cooler temps.
I was at the game to cover to cover the Oak Hills team which is why all the images are of one team. Clicking on an image should show you a larger version.
This receiver just caught the ball and you can see his eyes looking down the field. Not sure he was happy to see what was coming at him.
